Running Coaches in the United States

Expert Coaching, Coast to Coast

From Boston qualifying standards to desert ultras, V.O2 connects US runners with coaches who understand the country's race calendar, terrain, and climate variety. Every coach builds training on individualized VDOT paces - the system developed from the research of Dr. Jack Daniels, a two-time Olympic medalist and exercise scientist - whether you're logging winter miles on a treadmill or training through a southern summer. Many coaches hold USATF or RRCA certifications or are V.O2 Certified - a certification exam authored by Dr. Jack Daniels himself - and every profile is reviewed before it goes live on the marketplace.

Find a Coach for Your Goal Race

Whether you're targeting a local road race, a major marathon, or a Boston qualifying time, filter by distance and product type to find a US-based coach who's guided runners through the exact race you're training for.

FAQ

Browse US-based coaches and use the location filter to narrow by city or region. Most coaching on V.O2 runs remotely, though - so you can work with the right coach whether they're around the corner or across the country.

Every coach sets and publishes their own pricing, from one-off consultations to ongoing private coaching, so the full cost is visible before you commit. Use the price filter to compare US coaches within your budget.

Many hold USATF or RRCA certifications or are V.O2 Certified - a certification exam authored by Dr. Jack Daniels. Credentials are listed on each profile, every profile is reviewed before going live, and you can filter by certification.

It's the book Dr. Jack Daniels wrote outlining the VDOT training methodology - the same material the V.O2 Certification exam is drawn from. Coaches on the marketplace build training around the same individualized pacing principles, whether or not they've taken the exam.

USATF (USA Track & Field) and RRCA (Road Runners Club of America) both run tiered coaching-education programs covering training science and coaching practice - separate from V.O2 Certified, which is V.O2's own credential built on Dr. Jack Daniels' methodology. Coaches can hold any combination of the three, and all are optional.

First, look for coaches with experience in your target distance, relevant specialities, and positive reviews. Or, search for coaches by location, product type, and price. Once you’ve narrowed your search, read the coaching bios to ensure the coach is the right fit for you. You can also message coaches directly to ask about their approach and whether they're a good fit for your goals.

Online coaches on V.O2 provide personalized training plans, feedback via messaging, phone calls and/or in-app commenting, and progress tracking without requiring in-person meetings. Most adjust your plan based on your weekly feedback and performance.

Most coaches on the V.O2 Marketplace encourage you to message them with questions before purchasing. This helps you evaluate fit and ensures they're the right choice for your goals and timeline. Otherwise, please email us at info@vdoto2.com and we’ll help you match with the right coach.
