About Quint

Hello! I’m Quint van Beek, a running coach and competitive marathon runner based in Chicago, originally from the Netherlands. Running has become a major part of my life, but my development didn’t happen overnight. Through years of consistent training, experimentation, and learning, I improved my marathon time from 3:07 to 2:43. I have competed in major marathons including Chicago, Boston, and Berlin, and I’m currently working toward breaking 2:40 and completing all six World Marathon Majors. Current race PRs: 5k: 17:00 10k: 35:19 Half: 1:15 Marathon: 2:43 My own progression taught me that successful training isn’t about pushing as hard as possible every day. It comes from consistently completing the right training at the right intensity while giving your body enough time to recover and adapt. That principle is at the heart of my coaching. My coaching approach: I create individualized training plans based on your current fitness, running history, availability, and personal goals. Your training should fit into your life—not the other way around. My approach emphasizes: - Consistency over weeks, months, and years - Controlled, purposeful quality sessions - Genuinely easy running between harder workouts - Gradual and manageable increases in training volume - Race-specific preparation as your goal event approaches - Regular communication and adjustments based on how you’re responding I’m particularly interested in threshold-based training and the Norwegian Singles approach. This uses controlled sub-threshold sessions to develop endurance and speed without creating excessive fatigue. However, no single training method works for everyone. I use these principles as part of a flexible coaching approach rather than forcing every athlete into the same program. Some runners can train six or seven days per week, while others may only have three or four days available. Some athletes thrive on higher mileage, while others perform better with more recovery. I’ll build your training around what is realistic and sustainable for you. Who I coach: I work with runners across a range of experience levels, from newer runners preparing for their first event to competitive athletes chasing significant personal bests. I can help you prepare for: - 5K and 10K races - Half marathons - Marathons - A Boston Marathon qualifying time - A new personal best - Your first race or first step into structured training - Building consistent fitness without a specific race goal You don’t need to be an elite runner to benefit from having a coach. You need to be willing to communicate, train consistently, and trust the process. What you can expect: Coaching is more than receiving a schedule. I want you to understand why you’re completing each session and how it contributes to your development. Your training will be adapted when life, work, travel, weather, fatigue, or unexpected challenges get in the way. One missed workout won’t ruin your progress, and you’ll never be encouraged to force a session simply because it appears on the schedule. My goal is to help you become a stronger, more confident, and more knowledgeable runner. We’ll pursue your goals seriously while making sure the process remains enjoyable and sustainable. If you’re ready to discover what consistent, well-structured training can do for your running, I’d love to work with you.
