About Paul

He began his running journey in 2012 and, during the process, lost 50+ lbs. Since running his first marathon in 2013 (4:18:26), he has lowered his time to 2:58:05 in 2019. He credits his first running coach, Dane Rauschenberg, with teaching him the valuable lesson of “make your miles count, don’t count your miles.” He believes every run, even easy runs, should have a purpose rather than focusing on building to high mileage in pursuit of goals. While Paul has been a sports coach for over twenty-five years (football and basketball), he began coaching others informally in 2016. He’s helped athletes discover the joy of running and achieve their fitness goals. He has coached various athletes, from those training for their first 5k to others looking to PR their marathon time. Paul is involved in the local running community and has volunteered at several races, including acting as a volunteer pacer. He is one of the group leaders for the Iguana Run Fast Track Club. In addition to his coaching, Paul has earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Arizona State University and has undergraduate degrees in Education (BEd) and History (BA). He was great at seeing where my fitness level was and what I needed to do to get to the start line of a race. For the first time, I was doing workouts I enjoyed and looked forward to. As an athlete I admire and respect, he brought his knowledge of the sport to help me be a great athlete, hoping to achieve some PRs finally." C. But him tweaking what I'd been doing on my own all those years took me to the next level. He led me to PRs in all race distances (mara, 1/2, 10km) at age 44! He wrote the prescription, I followed it, and together we made meaningful things happen out there on the road. Aside from his coaching expertise, I got to know how wonderful and humble of a human being and athlete he is. I cannot speak more highly of him!

However, I have LOVED my experience with Paul! He planned a great variety of runs for me which made each week of my training plan exciting. My running routine went from boring and mundane to fun and challenging. Furthermore, he is a wealth of knowledge and encouragement as he has run MANY fast marathons himself. I would encourage any runner looking to improve their paces and race times to work with Paul!

He takes time to get to know you, and build a plan that is well researched and stretches you to your goal. We've worked together for several years on many successful sub elite half marathon and full marathon plans, from local races to world majors. He's helped me consistently run my goal time by making my mileage count with a focus on staying injury free. A great coach for dedicated amateur and advanced runners alike.
