About Katie

Hello! My name is Katie and I am a running coach based in Chicago, IL. Whether you’ve got a big race goal or just want to improve your fitness I think you’ll really enjoy training with me! I work full time as an architect in Chicago and enjoy training for a variety of race distances throughout the year. Running is my favorite hobby but I also enjoy painting, playing piano, and walks with my Golden Retriever. I've been coached by some really awesome people, including Olympian Dakotah Popehn, and developed a passion for helping runners be their strongest and enjoy the journey. As a certified running nerd, I'm constantly learning new things about training, new technology, and biomechanics. Need shoe recommendations? I got you! My favorite race distances are marathon and half marathon. I ran my first marathon at age 19 and surprised myself by qualifying for Boston! After that I was hooked and continue to work at my goal of a sub 2:50 marathon and running the 6-star marathon majors. I also enjoy training for Triathlons and competed with the Fighting Illini Triathlon team at University of Illinois. I struggled for several years in college with underfueling and simply not eating enough to support my training and recovery which led to several injuries. In recent years I have learned more about runners' nutrition needs and greatly improved my performance, health, and longevity in the sport. Though I'm not a dietitian, I'm happy to share advice about in-race/ long run fuel and daily nutrition for runners. I believe strength training is a really valuable tool in preventing some injuries and helping you run faster and stronger. I've seen a lot of growth in my own running and offer a few basic strength training routines to my athletes. My biggest focus with athletes is to build solid, lasting fitness while avoiding injury and burnout. The most powerful and underestimated tool in distance running is consistency over months, seasons, and years. I’ll help you follow manageable training that fits your schedule and life. Athletes training with me will focus on keeping a low heart rate or effort on easy runs to make sure they're fully recovered to run FAST at their next speed workout. Training is so much fun when you have the support of a coach and workouts well-suited to your current fitness! I can’t wait to meet you and start crushing some goals!

Her training has gotten me ready for the Eugene Half feeling like a much stronger runner. The training always had a purpose, and there was a lot of variation in the sessions to keep things fresh. Whenever I had questions, Katie always got back to me quickly and with added sources if I wanted to dig deeper. When I was frustrated with training (resulting from vacation, then getting sick), she helped me put things in perspective. Would highly recommend Katie as a coach. She's knowledgeable, supportive, and responsive.

I had Katie train me for the 2025 New York City Marathon and I shaved off 14 minutes from my time last year in the same race. First time working one on one with a coach and it was worth it to have a customized plan and expert access. Workouts are easy to follow and she was easily available for questions. She was also able to quickly adapt my training schedule for travel and unexpected illness/injury. I would highly recommend Katie’s coaching.

Katie was super capable, easy to work with, and had a great grasp on what I needed to work on to get to the marathon time I was looking for. Her training plan was also very dynamic, so my runs were never boring and I always had some new exercise to look forward to the following week. Would absolutely recommend for anyone trying to get in shape or improve their race times.
