Andrew Shivery

Running Coach in Miami, Florida, United States

About Andrew

I'm not your prototypical runner. I didn't grow up running cross country or come from an athletic background — I found this sport through my own desire to compete. I understand what it's like to start from scratch in a sport that demands long hours and real dedication, and what it takes to push through the hard mileage and hit tough goals, especially training here in South Florida heat. I'm a self-taught coach with a genuine passion for running — no two athletes get the same plan, because no two athletes are chasing the same thing. I've helped runners with zero running background cross the finish line of everything from their first 5K to their first marathon. I've coached multiple clients to cut over 30 minutes off their marathon times. Right now, I'm coaching runners sharpening their sub-3:00 marathon fitness, plus a client building up to their first 50K. Beyond 1:1 coaching, I run weekly group track sessions in Miami for The Herd, a local run club — developing everyone from casual runners building consistency to serious competitors sharpening speed for their next race. I hold myself to the same standard I hold my athletes to. I've cut more than 30 minutes off my own marathon time, and I'm currently chasing a Boston Qualifier of my own, targeting late 2026 into 2027. Every plan I write gets tested on my own legs first, built on Jack Daniels' training methodology. Whether you're toeing the line for your first 5K or building toward a marathon PR, my specialty is the full range — 5K through marathon — with every plan built around your specific goals, not a generic template. Please reach out to me for a quick consultation if you're interested in working together to see if it will be the right fit! Doesn't cost a thing, and would love to learn more about anyone who wants to work with me.

Description

Whether you're getting back into training after time off or sharpening for your next PR, the 12-week plan builds a stable foundation — gradually increasing your mileage so your fitness and your goal race arrive at the same time. This plan works two ways: as a foundation builder if you're easing back into consistent running, or as focused race prep if you're already training and want a structured build toward a specific goal.

Minimum Requirements

Running 3–6x per week — no mileage minimum to start Training for a half marathon: ideally starting from a 15–20 mile/week base Training for a marathon: ideally starting from a 25–30 mile/week base If you're not at those bases yet, that's fine — the plan will build you toward race readiness gradually. Just be upfront about your starting point.

Description

Sixteen weeks is the standard block for a reason — it's enough time to build real fitness without wasting weeks on padding. If you're already running consistently, this is where we skip the warm-up and get straight to work. The plan itself is built around you: your schedule, your mileage history, your goals. We'll work together to level set the expectation by the end of the block and individualize your workouts to make sure you're progressing at your pace and not basing it on generic workouts. Sixteen weeks from now, you're not just fitter. You're standing on a start line knowing exactly what your training says you're capable of and more. It's my goal to have you toe the line healthy, fit, and prepared.

Description

Built for runners who need a little runway before the real work starts. The 20-week plan usually starts with a 4-5 week dedicated base-building phase to get you to a solid mileage foundation, then rolls directly into the same structured 16-week block used by runners who start race-ready — so you arrive at the goal-specific training with the same foundation, without crunching time. We'll work every step of the way to make sure your personal progression is being met or hopefully exceeded for any goal you have by the end of 20 weeks. The plan itself is built around you: your schedule, your mileage history, your goals. We'll work together to level set the expectation by the end of the block and individualize your workouts to make sure you're progressing at your pace and not basing it on generic workouts.
