The marathon course starts at the same location in North Sydney as the Sydney 2000 Olympic Marathon and takes runners across the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge, around the landmarks of The Rocks, Circular Quay and Centennial Park, before finishing in front of the world-famous Sydney Opera House.
The race is Australia's largest marathon and has experienced exponential growth since becoming a candidate race for the Abbott World Marathon Majors in 2022. In 2025, the event welcomed a record-breaking 35,000 marathoners from over 120 countries in its first year as a Major.
